How far to torque exhaust-manifold screws?
Title basically says it all. I upgraded my exhaust a while back and in the process found that my manifold had a crack in it. So Honda went ahead and replaced it free of charge, even though I was going to be replacing the thing - free is free. So when they did replace it, the screwed the connecting screws in so tight that the springs are fully compressed. Now when I drive and make sharp right turns I hear a grinding noise coming from underneath the chasis. I did some reading and someone says that it's shock, others say that the bigger exhaust rubs making the grinding sound. BTW - the sound gets really annoying and loud when it rains. So I was thinking that when I originally had the exhaust on, I only had the screws such that the springs were mildly compressed so that when the engine torqued it would have some give. I'm basically wondering if this was correct for my setup and if I were to return the screws to what I originally had, will this make that odd grinding sound go away or at least get really really minimal. Again that sound only happens on very sharp right handers, but anytime when it rains.
FYI: I thought it might have been a CV-joint or some other part of the suspension, but I've had the CV-joints, frame and rods inspected twice and the suspension ive had replaced twice, once factory - factory and know factory - tockico's+ebiach, and all that stuff checks out. Ill shoot a pic of what I'm talking about in the morning - but its kind of rainy and well its 3 am so...
Anyways thanks for the help.
