Ignition Trouble Help Needed!
Ignition Trouble Help Needed!

Key gets stuck in the ignition after i drive the car sometime. Most of the time when I'm on a hill. I gotta put the key in and turn it to II and switch gears to make it come out, but half the time that doesn't work and I have to turn the car back on. And Move it and redo everything to get the key out. My car is salvaged and one of my friends said something is clogging the wires, but some say its the gears or the ignition itself. What do you guys think?
Thanks, Johnny

I am a bit confused on your issue. It doesnt make sense when you say the key gets stuck, but you have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to position II and switch gears for it to come out. the key doesnt come out in position II. now the key comes out when the car is in park and before it comes out you have to push it in and turn down.
O.k. let me be more pacific sorry about that. Basically when I'm done driving I switch gear to park and my key doesn't turn past ignition I. I tried pushing down and pulling the key out the ignition, but that would take countless tries tell the key finally pops out the ignition. Instead I would turn the key back to ignition II and switch gears then I'm able to take my key out, but this only works half the time which is MADDENING!! Then if that method doesn't work I turn the car back on and drive it to a different spot. Then I'm going through all the steps again lol. Any opinions on this problem. Thanks all

cars shock you for 2 reason.. 1 static (the beauty of cloth seats).. 2 something is not grounded correctly.. if you get shocked once its static.. if you get shocked more than once you have a grounding issue... its almost always static
as for the key.. im still not fully following what yer saying.. however my gf cant get my key out of my car.. the two times shes tried she has not been able to get it out.. then the second i try it slides right out.. my only though is that you are use to a different car and you are not pulling the key out straight...
or as my gf puts it to explain her problem... "the car just hates me"
then again you said it was a salvage.. so there could be something broken like the ignition cylinder, perhaps a circuit board or just a lose wire somewhere..

I remember hearing this happened to someone before. I think the sensor telling the ignition that the car is in neutral was bad. The person would run it thru the gears when trying to get the key out. I think the key will only come out when the sensor knows the car is in neutral. Let me look around.
If that doesn't solve it I'd say you might be looking at a keysense issue. I have seen this once or twice on the newer Cobalts where it won't release the key. Maybe not quite what you're experiencing but similar. red/white wire should see ground when the key is in the cylinder. Make sure the black ground wire isn't dropping voltage at all. I might be way off but just thinking outside the box.
