car hesitates when floored, NOT TURBO

My car has just started to do this. When i floor or even ease on the gas at a dead stop it seems to bog down for about 3 seconds, and then comes to life and drives like normal. I have no clue whats doing it..., and i know its not the trans. Any help would be awsome thanx.

car is just not up to tune.

1. new air filter, plugs, oil and filter

2. www.lubecontrol.com

3. clean throttle body and the IAC idle valve on the side of it

4. tighten the throttle cable to within 0.5 inch slack.

5. remove and clean vtec solenoid screen filter (EX vtec only)

6. check battery and charging system

i did that yesterday when my engine light came on for vtec malfunction. the solenoid is near the airbox area, with a cylinder thing bolted on top. just 3 screws and it comes out. the screen on mine was filled with sand that i was able to wipe with a cotton cloth. afterward it felt and sounded so much better in the higher rpm and the engine light didnt come back. took maybe an hour to do everything.

I would change the plugs first and see if the problem goes away.

Check for a vacuum leak. Easiest thing to check for. Just take a can of carb cleaner and spray around intake gasket area or throttle body. if there is a leak then rpm's will go up slightly when it is sprayed at the leak.

does it really bog down for 3 seconds. i think i know what you are taking about. do you have an auto. it does that to mine but its not 3 seconds is like half a second maybe 1. im guessing its the time difference for the added fuel to get to the engine when you press the gas. but thats what i think

no it shouldnt be happening because you have an auto. mine takes off really fast from a stop and my tranny is starting to break too. throttle cable isnt even that tight, you just need to have everything tuned to get the most from the car.

my car is an auto but its not the tranny, the car will bog down untill it hits 3000rpm then its fine, and it drives like normal. Im gonna take it to a shop and see what the deal is, also its not a vacuum leak i checked for that already. thnx for the info tho.

Could be d17

Edit: Thats it for comedy, but really check the plugs, tends to be the reason on older cars.

I stopped at a Honda dealership on my way back to the office this afternoon to see if they had a Vtec solenoid screen on stock. The guy looked at me with the Uh-oh face like he had no idea what I was talking about. So he pecked at the keyboard and pointed to the IACV. I told him I just cleaned my IACV a couple weeks ago and would like the screen for my Vtec solenoid. I could almost see in his eyes that he had no idea what Vtec even is. Of course, not in stock so a wasted trip to a dealership, except I got to sit in a new Si walking out...
