I would guess that the squeaking is from your front brakes but only you can tell us where it is coming from.

Plus,,, What is "not to long ago"? Because the driver determines when the brakes will fail, as well as the quality of the parts.

Squeaking does not indicate bad brakes. If the noise is coming from the front and you've had the brakes replaced, I would make a visual inspection and if you find nothing, your brakes are fine and they have the characteristic of being noisy.

Calipers may not be resetting properly and may need to be rebuilt/replaced. When your brakes were changed was there any uneven wear on the pads?

Uneven wear on single piston, floating calipers is very common. Heck, I had uneven wear on my 4-piston, fixed calipers. I HIGHLY doubt your calipers need rebuilt. Unless the dust boot is damaged and you didn't clean off the pistons before you pushed them back in, they rarely go bad.

I understand uneven wear is common, but if the pads had 1/4" difference then it is pretty clear that the caliper is sticking. I know several people on here have replaced/rebuilt their calipers so it is relatively common. If the calipers are sticking then that would explain the noise after breaking since the pads are still pushed against the rotors.

No one can tell you what it is unless you can figure out where it's coming from. Have someone sit in the car and play with the brakes while you walk around it. Then you will know where it's coming from. And yeah, how long is "not too long ago"??

Ill bet $$$$$ if the noise it makes only goes SQUEEK everytime you release the brake pedal. Its prolly coming from the rear brake shoes rubbing on the backing plates. Fairly common on ALL drum brake cars depending on climate and mileage of the car. Cure is to clean rear brakes, and lube the 3 or 4 contact points on each brake shoe with a high temp high pressure lube designed for brakes. One way to help figure out if the nosie is from this is to SLOOOOWWWWLY release the brake pedal while someone is standing out side the car next to the wheel and listen for the noise!

My 01 does the exact same thing. It's when I release the pedal. I know the noise comes from the rear. I'm going to take them apart tomorrow and try your suggestion. Thanks.
