I dont know about anyone else, but yesterday, my fiance was driving home in her 02 ex coupe, when her AEM intake caught fire. I came to find out that the lower portion of the intake had grounded to the posts on the starter, causing the filter to catch fire. Has this happened to anyone else? Three hours of driving later, and a new filter, problem solved, but with CEL on. BTW both her and the car are fine, as for the filter, its fried, will post pics later.

arked sparks lighting the filer oil on fire. I can belive that especially if it is a CAI. Its a tight fit under the battery. When I had a CAI it sometimes sparked on me when I would remove the lower pipe so I could clean the filter.
Glad all is well.

not the coupler that hit the starter, it was the lower half of the piping... thinking about calling AEM to see what they have to say about it, or if this has ever happened before...

Never heard of this issue, but does seem like a real issue. I guess it can't be that common of an issue. Anyways, gl with your situation.
ps. I'm glad I don't have a CAI.

hahaha AEM FTL! god i hate that company. they cant make anything right. their intakes blow (and are unsafe it appears), cam gear falls apart, their pulleys ruin the alternator, i havent owned a single decent product of theirs.
