Alternator problems...

Me and my buddy did a motor swap on my car last night, and we got it all put back to together and we started the car and it was fine...So we went back through to check all the wires and connecters. He gets to the alternator and the wire that you slide on the screw post was loose. But when he touched it, it sparked and blew my battery fuse. Now everytime i replace the fuse it blows and kinda melts my negative battery post. What could be the problem? I heard it was a dead short somewhere, not sure though, anybody know?

disconnect the alternator and see if the fuse continues to blow. if it doesnt, then the alternator is faulty. if it continues to blow, something else is the issue.
