2001 Civic Power Window problem

Hi,

I have a 2001 civic 4dr. My passanger side power window is not working.

Upon inspection, I found that the fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse.
Blown again. I am sure there is some problem with the motor or the drive
mechanism. I am DIY type of guy and I would like to open the door and see
what is wrong first. Does any one know how I can open the door panel
and get access to the drive motor / mechanism.

Thanks

KBM

let me guess, it was your front passenger side window.

Door panel is simple. Near the handle pull the little plate off. Two screws there.

Near the hand handle (not the one to open the door) there is a little clip there. Pull that up and there is a srew there. Then pry up that part. Then look in there is two screws that hold the door panel to the door. Take those out. Then take a big flat head with tape all around the head or a clip puller and go around the door panel prying the door clips off. Then you can slide the panel up. Its a pain in the a to slide up but just fuddle with it. Done

PS. take off the little plastic part for the power windows, you are going to need to.

The regulator and t track come as one. You wont see **** from just looking @ it unless you can see the window is frozen. message me on aim and we can talk about this more. I dont feel like typing

bigbadjd

bigbadjdee** thats the right one.

Thanks a lot guys..
Yes, it was the passenger side glass having problem..
I finally figured it out..
I took the door panel out and tried to activate the motor with a lawn
trimmer battery.. It worked perfectly.. Both forward and resverse directions.
And the passenger side switch looked fine too.. So, I thought there
may be some problem with the master control on the driver side.
So, I took apart the master control and sure there were burn marks around
the switch that controls the passengerr side window..
Now I tested the other switches (rear left/right) to see how the switch
is normally connected. There are 5 pins in the switch and the pins 1-2 are
connected and pins 4-5 are connected with the switch in normal position.
I soldered a jumper wire across pins 1-2 and another jumper across pins 4-5.
wow.. it worked.. Now I can roll the window up / down with the switch on
the passenger door atleast. While I had the passenger door apart,
I also fixed the rubber channel that had come out a little.
I am looking around for the master control PCB on the driver side or the whole thing.
Any idea where I can buy it?.

it's a common problem, especially with smokers who drive with the driver's side window rolled down. water gets into the master switch and shorts it out. the weirdest part is, if you do a search on power windows not working, it's almost always the front passenger window that fails.

replace the switch and the 20 amp fuse. you can try looking for it at a wrecker, but after wasting a few days, and finding that they wanted 75% ($100 Cdn) of the cost of a new one. i just went ahead and bought a new switch at the dealer ($135 Cdn).

after i fixed the switch, i bought a set of vent visors to prevent it from happening again.

Window Noise

I have a question fellas or ladies. I am having the same problem...but..a little different. I was making a right onto the freeway on ramp. As i am turning the corner. I hear a loud thump. I was like WTF. So i continue to drive home. I get out of the car look to see if i hit something nothing. So later on as i drive to the gym. My power windows roll down about a quarter of the way and then stop. I could not roll it back up. When i go over to move the window i can move it up and down freely. I was driving this mourning and the window just started to slowly creep down. So i am assuming whatever that thump was, that was it. Not sure what could have crashed in the car but I'm sure it was not good. I know some of you gave instructions as to how to take the door apart. I was just wondering if there are pictures on how to really do this. I am a total noob and i wanted to get my hands a little dirty with my first sort of DIY inspection. I have looked on the forums but i cannot find anything.

thx

HI All,
I have exactly the same problem with my master switch for power windows.
I removed the master switch and tried to open it to see inside for any soldering defects and etc. I removed all the three screws but I cound not pull the safety button (used to control other three windoows switches). I tried to pull it out but could not, and I do not want to break it.
Could someone help me to open the master switch ?

thanks,

Re: 2001 Civic Power Window problem

the circle lock button at the top will pull off with enough force, then you can pop open the housing. mine is starting to die again and it seems like burnt black stuff builds up inside the contacts and after some cleaning, it starts working again.

Hi,
Finally, I opened the master switch and found out the reason why the passanger side pwr window does not roll. The black switch inside the master switch for the passanger side is burnt. I think water got inside somehow.

so, i desolder the black switch and now the fuse does not blow. But, how can I get the pwr window work using the switch the in the passanger side door ? I think I need to connect some pins in the master switch in order to get this working.

there are 5 pins and 2 of them are grounded. But I do not know what the three pins are for. plse someone tell me which pins i should connect to use the switch in the door itself. a small diagram would be great....

thanks,

Re: 2001 Civic Power Window problem

You can download wiring diagrams from your public library's web site if you have a library card. At least that's true for my library. Go to the library web site and select "online databases". Find "Automotive Repair", then "EbscoHost Car Repair Manuals". Enter your library card number and log in. Navigate to your year, make, model, and click Wiring Diagrams. Find the one you want and there it is. The diagram shows the pin numbers, wire colors, switches, everything.

I just pulled a complete power window setup from a 2001 and I'm about to install it in my 2005 so I have all of the schematics and wiring diagrams for everything if anyone wants them. I've got everything you need to figure out your windows.

I dont understand which pins do I need to short for getting atleast the passenger window switch to work. If you can mark in the photo I have attached, it would be of great help.

I too have a burnt black passenger door switch in the master switch. All other windows work fine both up and down. Any luck on finding which pins to jumper in the master switch plug to let you use the front passenger door switch to roll the front passenger window up/down? Or, how to jumper in the master switch plug to roll the frt passenger window up/down? Mine is down now and I would like to roll it up while I await a new master switch.

The black switch for the passenger window on the master switch board is pretty much toast and the printed circuit under it is also burnt. I have a new switch on order, but would like to raise the passenger window while waiting for delivery. Seems like one should be able to operate the window by jumpering the right pins in the master switch plug since that is essentially what the switch does. Just need to know which ones to jumper to make the window go up. Alternative would be to remove the passenger side door panel and hook 12v directly to the lift motor (more effort than just jumpering the master switch).
