speed sensor...???

i just changed rims from 15 to 17. the honda dealership told me that i have to change my speed sensor because i'm getting like 200 miles on a full gallon. wat the hell is a speed sensor and do i need it???

if you're getting bigger rims, you're gonna get different tires that should compensate to make the same total diameter. your dealer is weird because i have never heard of what you're talkin about

they might be referring to how larger wheels will throw your speedometer (and maybe your odometer) out of whack by a couple kilometers (or miles) per hour. The reason is that our cars (depending on the model) are meant to run on 15" wheels and one rotation of a 17" wheel goes a little further than one rotation of a 15" wheel, but the instrumention is calibrated to count the wheel rotations, thus the difference..... I don't completely understand it myself, but there is a small issue there with the instruments being slightly our of whack.... I don't think it's a big deal though.... maybe somebody with some more technical insight can shed light on this???

If you use the tire calculator and select the proper tire size then it doesn't matter what size wheels you use. The overall outside diameter of the tire determines how far you travel per revolution. The closer you are to your original O.D. the more accurate your speedo will be.
