auto tranny noise shifting into D or R

2001 Civic EX ~85000 miles

makes a clicking/popping noise shifting through gears. no change in driveability, fluid in tranny looks and smells ok.

any ideas?

seems most guys on here have manuals, found some old threads from 2004 with little info.

thanks.

the autos on 01-03 are pretty much junk. very few make it past 100k miles, but if yours is working, i wouldnt worry for now. ive never heard of noises tho, usually it will just start slipping gears.

well so far nobody has posted in the problem section. we "think" the 04-05 had some kind of revision where they fixed the defective clutch pack but who knows. it may just be too soon for the problem to show up. usually between 40-80k miles is when it starts to slip. so alot of 04-05 are not that old yet.

my 03 auto tranny makes a pretty loud clunk if i shift from neutral to drive while the car is rolling slowly. Its been like that ever since new and there are no performance problems at all.

I have a 2004 civic ex auto with 53,000 miles and i have had no problems whatsoever. Even when a friend of mine who thought he was being cool, neutral dropped it. I think the 04-05 trannies are stronger/reworked. But I still have 30,000 miles to be proven wrong.

mines still going strong at 123,000 miles. And this includes it sucking up tons of water when I flooded the car. I guess the guy that built mine got laid that morning or something.

i wish i had a good tranny. mine has now started shifting harder, and when i let go of the gas or press on it while cruising, i get a jolt. and as always it still clunks hard if you drop below 20mph and press the gas again.

ooh ok so i put the car up saturday and the noise sounds more localized to the differential. i.e. i hear it when turning one tire forward or backward and holding the other still. should be fun when that blows up. but i guess my tranny is still ok....

Question

yea my tranny (95k miles) also makes a loud clicking noise shifting from park, especially when its cold, but i dont think thats much to worry about, atleast i dont. since no1 cares to reply on my thread from yesterday, i have the typical 2-3 gear slippage, when i rebuild should a buy the TCI clutch module kit or the overhaul Kit???
