2002 civic A/C making some funny noises...

Hey guys,

I have a 2002 Civic that recently the A/C started making a noise under the hood. It's at idle all the way up to redline. What it does is grawl in a way, the A/C motor makes a loud noise under the hood. The A/C still blows just as cold as it did before, and the car has no side effects from the compressor making all the noise, but something's definately wrong.

Any idea's what it could be? It just started, car has 65,000 miles or so. What is Honda's warranty on this sort of stuff? I've looked up how much a new compressor is and god they are expensive.

Just curious of any ideas of a fix or what else to look for (if it could be just the clutch assembly and not the compressor).

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Nada???

It's still going on, the A/C motor/area makes tons of noise when it's on, yet things still blow cold, engine seems fine and such. I dunno.......I was thinking about changing the clutch but I'm not 100% of what is involved.

Any ideas???

The compressor clutch wouldn't make the noise you discribe, it sounds like your compressor is on it's way out. It could last many years or crap out this afternoon, the bad new is not only will you need a new compressor, but you will also need a new acumulator and probably a new orifice tube, and the system will need to be flushed. The reason is that when a compressor goes bad, pieces of the compressor will come apart and contaminate the system.
