key wouldnt turn in the ignition
when i was leaving my girlfriends house tonight, i put my key in the ignition like normal, went to turn it and the key wouldnt move. i tried a few more times and pushed a little harder and tried wiggling it around some, but it still wouldnt budge. i was starting to get worried at that point, thought i might have to get it towed to the dealer and find some other way to get home. i tried again and pushed the key pretty hard and i was finally able to force it to move. once it got past that first movement it was able to turn normally and i started the car and came home. i was able to get the key back out without any trouble, and i forgot to try putting it back in again, so i dont know if ill have the same problem next time or not

I think it might be the steering wheel lock. When you put the key in and it wont go, move the steering wheel, and than it should work. That same thing happened to me today.

i tried moving the steering wheel some but it didnt want to move either. i know the key would lock in my 88 dodge omni if i moved the wheel after the car was off, but im pretty sure i didnt move the wheel after the car was off today. hopefully thats all it was though
I hate that stupid lock! I have experienced it on other cars but not on my Civic yet. i've yet to understand WTF and HTF it works.
It probably was just the steering wheel lock...it has happened to me too. I have an auto, and after I was done washing it one day... the friggen thing would turn, It eventually gave in to my demands and started up within about ten minutes, and haven't had a problem since then, but it can puzzle you for a second, if you don't know the cause.

<< you have to have your foot on the brake also... >>
not in mine, i have a 5-speed. i can turn the key even if i dont have the clutch in, it just wont start
it hasnt happened again since i posted this, hopefully it was just the steering wheel lock
This happens to me a lot too. I don't know what causes it but I just turn the key really hard until it finaly goes. You think you are going to break the key but it gives before then. The first time it scared the hell out of me but now I'm used to it. My wife will every now and then come and get me because she's afraid she's gonna break the key.
Sounds like the steering wheel lock. Sometimes you have to tug on the wheel. I did it for the first time in my car a few days ago. Luckily I had experienced it before in my OLD car. The first time it happened to me I was still a new driver (16) and I freaked out. I didn't know what was wrong with my car. LOL. Thinking back to the situation it must have been REALLY funny (for the passengers in my car, and for the person that helped me)!

one time i was driving my dads dodge shadow, and i put the key in, but it didnt do anything at all when i turned it, and then when i tried to take it out, it wouldnt let me take the key out. luckily my girlfriends dad had some idea of what was wrong, and he was able to get the key out and then when i tried again it worked normally, and it hasnt had that problem since (and that was almost 2 years ago)
