Another Automatic Transmission Question
Another Automatic Transmission Question
A friend of mine has a 2002 Civic DX Auto (mine is a 5 speed). If she is in drive and on a hill, with the car running, if she lets go of the brake, she rolls backwards. The dealer says that this is normal, and the car should stop after about 3 meters (10 feet) when something is supposed to engage and stop the car from rolling (She says nothing kicks in to stop the rolling). Do all civics do this?

mine does it too, its because your on a hill so gravity takes it backwards, when im on a not so steep hill it stays but when im on a steep hill it rolls back a little
By doing that multiple times you are overheating the transmission. The torque converter was not meant to hold your car still on a hill. THATS WHAT BRAKES ARE FOR. The reason why you are going backwards is that your car does not have the torque capability to keep it still.
