man even if you change the oil like every 6 - 7k it will last. Usually the only time an engine will eat rod or crank bearings is when the oil level is low. Dirty oil will just cause a bit more wear and maybe carbon/sludge buildup. I havent changed my gf's castrol GTX oil in 6k and im not concerned.
Mine went at 40,000. Crank bearings are mismatched from honda. Instead of having the same colors top and bottom on the crank, there all mismatched. I hate my honda now, 2 alt, 2 power steering pumps, 7 master cylinders,. 2 slave cylinders, 2 transmissions, 3 clutches, 2 ball joints, 4 new struts. ANd i drive my civic like a grandma.
Dont know about you guys but I got a lemon.

^ My thoughts exactly, that really does not happen randomly. There was something that went wrong that triggered it.

In fact, "frequent oil chage" is a big myth in terms of "for prolonging engine life".
Main resons for unnessessary blow engines are: exessive heat and dirty air.

i know oil plays a big role in engine life personaly. my buddy had an 80's model trans am, somewhere between 85-87, and we were racing down the freeway when a huge could of steam came out his exhaust. we pulled over and it turned out he blew the radiator cap off and motor got hot which ruined the strenght of the internals. about a week later he was driving around about a quart low on oil, downshifts into 2nd from 3rd and bang, rod came through the side of the block. internals dont like heat. dont keep fresh oil in the case and heat builds up and eventually will blow the motor while under a load.
hmm my 01 is still running strong after 180,000m, other than a occasional engine light (which i have no idea what's wrong since everytime i bring it to have a code taken it goes away) nothing wrong with it .. and mine is mostly freeway driving. or maybe i'm just lucky ... oh well, if it blows, might as well swap it

well ive put 35000 on mine in a year and thats a hard 35k. i drive the **** out of it. so far havent had to replace anything but a taillight fuse from when i jammed the curcuit tester in the socket the wrong way. in about another month or so i should have the parts needed to get started on my rebuild and vtec head swap.

I beat on mine pretty good redlined/floored it EVERY day. Never had a problem in 70k miles till I traded it in. Well I did have a grind in the trans on 1-2 shifts every once in a while but the engine was flawless.
