Noise Diagnosis ..
Noise Diagnosis ..
There is a low pitch mechanical humming noise coming from the front of the car. It's a 2001 ex 5sp. The humming starts around 40mph and I can hear it up to 60 mph ... it does not increase in pitch but it does seem to get louder with more speed. Atter 60 I'm sure it's still there but I can't hear it because of wind/tire noise. It is not related to rpms .. I can put the vehicle in neutral and still hear it .. in fact I can shut the car off and still hear it. I did some searches and saw some people with alternator problems .. but I think I can rule this one out since the sound is not dependent on engine rpm. Im not ruling the wheel bearing out but steering does not affect the noise either. I checked the tires they seem fine. There is nothing stuck in them and they are not overinflated. Is there something that turns with the wheel at all times? Is the AC compressor on this loop?
Thanks ahead of time for any help,

I'll try to check the wheels for vertical play tonight ...
The front also makes a cracking sound when I turn the wheel from a stand-still ... I wonder if that could be bearing related as well ...
Thanks for the reply .. it's appreciated.
