COLD START

guys......

its morning & i have to rush my b*tt to the office.......

is it bad for the car to start it & then RUN the car immediately???

is it good if we just start the engine first for a couple of minutes before running the car???

is it about the oil being cold or what???

I don't know about your car, but if mine doesn't warm up, when I'm sitting at traffic lights it want to die.

1 or 2 minute warm-up should be enough (it's in the manual).

Do your cars whine a lot if you drive off without warming up more than 2 minutes? I'm worried I'll do damage if I don't let it warm up for at least 3-4 minutes on these cold days (despite what the manual says)

No, there's no whine, but I go really easy on the engine if it's still not completely warmed up... shifting at around 2500.

2500, me too....I won't take above that until it's all the way warmed up. I figure it can't be good to work the engine if it's not completly warmed up. Sports players don't go out and play all out without thoroughly warming up, do they? I also let it warm up for at least 1 min if not 2 on those really cold days or if I haven't driven it in a day or 2.

most everything I have read says that letting your car warm up for longer than 60 secs is a waste of time. The important thing is to be very easy on the engine until it reaches the normal operating temperture.

I think I finally have things figured out with my Civic. If I let the engine warm up until my RPM's drop from 1500 to 1200 then my engine doesn't get all whiney and sound like it's straining. What RPM's do your engines start out on a cold day?
