alternator??

Rep Power: 0 alternator??
so my cars been making this noise that kind of sounds like power steering but loud, 2 people have told me that its my alternator, so im gonna replace it, my question is... should i have someone do it or is it something i could do myself with not much of a chance to mess something up really bad??

Rep Power: 281 if you can turn a wrench and a rachet the right way, then you shouldnt have a problem replacing it yourself. if you doubt yourself at all then take it to a professional. You'll never learn unless you try it yourself, just my .02

Rep Power: 230 I don't consider my self much more than an ameteur mechanic, however, I have replaced an alternator on a truck before.
The only good thing about that swap was the truck was rear wheel drive, which allowed easy access to the belts and alternator.
I use the rule of threes. If I have to take more than three things off to replace the item, I don't do the repair.
