I never messed with my car under the hood, and I had the car for about 7 months now. Today, I was stepping on the car harder than usual on an uphill section near my house (shifted @ 6000rpm), which I believe is the time when my valve cover came off. I wasn't aware of this until I was driving into my garage that there was a lot of smoke coming out of my hood. I opened my hood and what do I know... my valve cover landed on the heatshield of my header and it melted a small section off. I can still screw it on now though. Has this problem occured on anyone else's Civic on here? Can I get a free replacement under warranty from the dealer?

your valve cover, or the black plastic spark plug cover?

yeah, if its the actual valve cover you got BIG problems, if its the spark plug coil cover, no biggie, the stoopid little lips could have been turned the wrong way, if its the plastic thing, i doubt the dealer would even bother giving you a new one, there like $15 on www.hondaautomotiveparts.com

omg! how did that happen? throw the engine away. I assume the check engine light came on but its already too late. Yikes have fun cleaning all the oil off everything.

haha I was also confused whether i should use valve cover or the black thingy on my engine :P

oh well it's the black thingy, i just find it really weird how it just randomly popped off!
