UGH! Frame Problems
UGH! Frame Problems
Ok, driving through a completly snow filled parking lot at night, i decided to cut across the lot to the other side on a diagional to avoid the traffic there
Low and behold, under the snow was a small island surrounded by a curb. Doing about 20k, i hit the edge of the curb with my right tire and rolled ontop of it, and could feel that it had struck my underbody.
The exhaust came off the hanger, so after i slowly drove it back home to get the exhaust put back on, i noticed that the right hand side frame rail has a crease from where the car had lie on the curb.
I took it out for a drive and there appears to be no damage to the tire, ball joint, or rim...actually it still drives in a perfectly straight line, so i dont think i twisted the frame???
MY question is, is this now going to effect the regidity of my frame becuase of the crease, and how would I go about getting somthing like this fixed??
UGH, what a fricken way to end the week
Thanks

theres no frame on a civic. its a unibody.
with that said, you are probably fine. just check everything periodically for any cracks.
if it still drives straight, im willing to bet its ok.

Yeah... no frame on a civic... or most modern FWD car really. Anyway, if it drive okay, you are probably fine. I'm not sure what part you are talking about but if the part was originally painted, sand it down and at very least put a few coats of primer on it to prevent rusting, assuming this is a painted part of the car. If it wasn't painted, I would still put a couple coats on because it was probably just coated with something to prevent corrosion and the seems are just inviting rust.
^ well i sure as hell am not paying more then 650 for it, if that one beam needs replacing and my 4 wheel alighment comes back good i will talk to a buddy about cutting the beam along the top seams and welding in a new piece of tubing
i will go get my estimate from the shop tomorrow
