Driver chair rock back and forth

Ok I looked this up on one of the sticky's and the link is not working.

So this is one of the reasons why I decided to post this

The drivers seat rocks back and forth and I know that some of you have had this problem. My issue is the following:

My car is out of warranty (02 honda civic ex coupe) and I personally want to fix it. So in reference to what I just asked do any of you know how to fix this problem? What is the exact problem behind this?

I took it to Honda so many times while the car was under warranty and the fix was only temporary. The problem always comes back and it is annoying as hell!

So if any of you can help me with this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

It's on the hight adjuster. There's four brakets that are welded to each corner of the seat track and lower track frame, which allow the seat raise up and down. The welds are very weak and break over time, which is why the seat "rocks". One temporary solution is to remove the seat and tighten the bolts that screw on to the welded bolts, but becuase the bolt has flat head it's hard to get a good grip on it and tighten the hell out of it.

i bolts holding the seat to the floor are the first concern, barring that, next issue would be some kind of height or angle adjuster the allows the entire seat to move. my 04 ex doesn't have that, so i am no help...

well according to a TSB, there are bushings in the frame that go bad causing the seat to rock back and forth, I had the same problem and when I had it at honda for warranty work, they replaced the seat frame.

The seat on my 05 started rocking within 4k miles. The dealer listed these parts on the repair order. It was repaired at 14k and has been fine since.

I have the same problem with both driver and passanger seats in my 05 EX coupe too. My driver seat started creaking too about 3 months ago, it's really annoying.

If you take it to a dealer, GOOD LUCK! They said it would NOT be covered under warranty and it would cost me around 200 dollars to fix. I told them to go screw themselves and made a complaint to American Honda telling them that it is a safety hazard. You can always do it yourself, but for me, I want a car to be working perfectly new and perfect after 60k miles so I expect Honda to fix it.

My dealer did the same thing a while back. It helped for a while but the rocking problem came back after a little while, and I didn't want to bother (and pay for) having them try again.

I found the TSB for this shortly after finding this forum. I finally got around to buying the bushings and spacers to do the TSB fix myself. Hopefully I can reuse the nuts that they tell you to replace (they weren't in stock at the dealer). I would post a link to the TSB here but I don't have 15 posts yet. I PMed them to civicfreak84 instead. CraigW provided the important info already though, the part numbers for what needs to be replaced.

I have the same damn problem. I just bought this car from a private seller and loved it, but now every time I shift I get a little wobble that reminds me why people buy from dealerships. If I take a saturday to work on "tighten the bolts that screw on to the welded bolts ...tighten the hell out of it." will this problem go away?

Is the seat rocking problem mainly with the earlier 7th gens? The driver's seat in my 05 has always seemed to wiggle a little, but only when coming to a start or stop. I always figured it was normal. I'm not sure if this is the same rocking that you're all talking about.
