Unhappy noise when accelerating

Hi guys. I'm not a car person, it's just a thing that gets me from point A to point B. Anyways, recently (like 2 days ago) when I put my car on reverse, it makes a slight squeaky noise. Then when I start to accelerate, this annoying scratching/rattling noise comes from the front passenger area (from inside the hood). I don't know why it's doing it. I researchd online and I'm getting an idea that it might have something to do with a belt of some sort. Is that what it is? If so hwo much does it cost to get it fixed at the body shop. And if it's not that, what can it be and how much will it cost to get it fixed?

The noise is pretty loud and it's embarassing to drive around. Oh and I have a 2004 Honda Civic withlike 26,000miles on it.

with 26,000 miles on it, take it to the Honda dealer and have them fix it. Before you go try to figure out a pattern to it, if is contastant, every time you put in drive it makes the sound then you have nothing to worry about, because Honda will take care of it for you. But a problem can arrise when the problem comes and goes and the mechs can't find it.

But yeah, the car is under warranty, the only thing you have to pay for is an oil change. Be aware that 30,000 mile mark some stuff needs to be done, consult your manual for what needs done and ask the delaer about the cost, although they are generally quite costly.

hey man. i had same problem but on driver side. i took my car to pepboys. they inspected it and found a small rock between the rotor between the drum. i was so happy cuz i didnt have to pay a dime, the inspection was free. u should go get that checked out before u go and buy new parts that wouldnt fix the problem.

auto..

the noise is loud. like I think if your outside and I drive by you, you'd be like "what the hell is that". I don't think it's a rock or something small stuck cause would it make that harsh of a noise? I guess I should be optimistic.

^^ trust me. im surprised the small rock was causing the noise that ive experienced. it was pretty loud. the pepboys guys were like 'wtf?'. the noise wasnt just when accelerating but whenever there was a wheel movement, though.

Sounds like a possible wheel bearing issue but take it to Honda under warranty and they should take care of you.

Hmm, maybe that's what's wrong. Because when I reverse, it makes a squeaky noise not a scratchy rattling noise (like when I'm driving). Then when I came home, I put my car on park and just pressed on the gas, and there wasn't any scratchy nosies. So hm, I hope it is a rock or something. I don't want to spend money fixing my car.

Yeah, I would guess tranny or axel.

Does it make noise when you turn, that is normally what an axel first starts to give a sound. If you are just going straight, I'm going to guess it's the tranny. And that is not cheap, hence the reason it should go to Honda ASAP. Unless you are heavily modded (like turbo or something like that) they won't have a problem with your car.

In my old van, it had the axle and joint all f'ed up..and when you turned while driving it makes a clunk-crunch sound like parts that have no grease. The boots need grease or they and the axle go out really quickly and can be a timely expensive fix. Doesn't sound like that is your problem though. Had a rock stuck between the brake-pad and the rotor not long ago that squealed like HELL when driven..I put it in reverse. backed up fast down an EMPTY road...and braked hard...then went forward again. Did this twice and it dislodged the rock. May or may not work if that is the problem. Take it to Honda and use that warranty you must have! lol

Haha!!!! WTF, we cant diagnose the problem by just guessing. You need to take it to a shop and have em duplicate the problem........
