knocking sound in the suspension

Whenever i drive my car over speedbumps, i hear a knocking sound as the front wheels come down from the bump. The dealer diagnosed it and replaced the two front schocks in front under warranty but then it is still there- like a metal knocking sound. Whatever speed on the speedbumps, it still knocks. Another problem is a rattling sound around the area of the front drivers' side wheel, still the dealer couldn't find it. Damn too irritating even running through smooth roads. No modification on the suspension though in case you might ask. Need advice on this, any of you had the same problem??

My car is in the shop right now for that very same problem....it happened to me alot in cold weather...like a clunk clunk sound. Well, it was the springs, they were coiled too tightly, they are both replaced, and they are going to re-align the front end tomorrow and i'll pick it up. They also fixed the various rattles. I suggest you bring some service bulletins when you visit the dealer, and show them you won't the their BS. Luckily, i have a great dealer thats honest and does good quality work everytime.

I had the same problem after having some H&R springs installed. After taking all the units apart again here is what I discovered. Inside the bottom of the strut tower there is a metal spring seat that the top of the springs sit in on the front end. Mine was rubbing on the right front and making the same noises you described. I spun the seat around and now it doesn't rub. On the rear one of my gromets was in crooked and that is now fixed too. If you spring seat is rubbing in your strut well you should be able to see the rub marks. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty pissed too, my dealer is trying to **** me around and not look.
But now that I see that it is common, I'll give him a little peice of my mind. It seems to happen to me mostly on short choppy bumps in the pavement. Thx for the help.

I have the same problem with my left front suspension, and it was a bad strut. Dealer replaced it under warr. Get your struts checked out, if you still hear that thud sound going over bumps. It may not be the springs like familyMan said.
