Transmission slip
Transmission slip
I just read this on a msn car review website:
An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the second gear clutch in the Automatic Transmission. This will cause the Automatic Transmission to slip or the check engine light to illuminate. Also when the Automatic Transmission is rebuilt or replaced, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software will need to be updated. The costto replace the Automatic Transmission is estimated at $1800.00 for a remanufactured Automatic Transmission and $318.50 for labor. The cost to update the PCM is estimated at $65.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.
Well I just started having problems with my A/T on a 01 civic. When I take off slowly and just let it go through the gears it slips and revs up to around 4500 rpms while it's shifting from 2nd to 3rd. When I take off quickly it shifts fine. It dosen't make sense to me. It just hit 60000 miles and I just got the tranny fluid changed but it still dose the same thing. Wondering if anybody had this problem and if anyone knows how much it is to replace the second gear clutch if that is what it is. Thanks.

if its starting to slip its going to go out soon you cant really do anything about it. just start saving up.

mine just went out but american honda is paying for the rebuilt auto tranny. they are paying for everything. i had 66k miles on my 01 civic. i guess they will replace the trannies on low mile civics but not on high miled ones.... that sucks!
the service advisor said that if u want the tranny to last its good to change the tranny fluid with every oil change. who ever said that hondas were cheap on mainenance!

yeah i have the same problem as you. i got 51k on mine and the thing revs up till like 4.5 while shifting adn then it shifts but today, it was a record, from 4000rpm it went up to 6.5 and then it shifted.....i give it a month before it really blows, then ill jus get a used tranny and sell the pos
spoonJDM...u should get that checked out by honda before u get stranded and have to pay for towing. american honda will most likely pay for the rebuilt tranny. with your tranny symptoms, mine blew withing 5 minutes of driving...most likely urs already blew. good luck
these civics are still good cars it just that u have to service the tranny frequently... goo luck bro
