Anyone know the effects of a crapped up heat shield?

My car has been making more noise lately. Does a messed up heat shield cause a lot of sound to be heard in the interior? It also makes a lot of noise when travelling over 120 kmph. When listening to the engine from the outside, it sounds normal at idle. the engine seems to be working fine as usual. Im thinkin its the heat shield.

how much do these things go for?

you gotta be more specific than that. every car made has some sort of rattle sound. can you describe the sound? heat shields don't usually make noise unless its loose.
