Another 7th Gen with a ****ed up Tranny...
Another 7th Gen with a ****ed up Tranny...
My 2001 Civic EX Coupe just went into the shop with 50,230 miles and a dead transmission. Its a five speed and it started making all sorts of noises so i decided to bring it in. The service manager said i doubt its the transmission cause the 7th gen civics have the best tranny lol... I called a
flag on that immediately. The fool then said its gonna be two weeks and 3500 dollars to get a new tranny. Thank god for warrenty! Anyone else have problems with their 5 speed?

Anyone else have problems with their 5 speed? i had to replace my tranny, too much grinding and hard shifts so i decided to buy a used tranny with low miles, best purchase yet. My cars daily driving is so much better now and shifts are smooth as well..

was it making a weird sound while driving? Like a weird whining sound that increased with rpm while it was in gear?
if so, it was most likely the input shaft bearing.
It only cost me about 4 hours and $25 to fix. But then again, my buddy runs a tranny shop, so we had all the tools and resources to take the tranny apart ourselves.
Anyway, the input shaft bearing has a plastic cage for the ball bearings (keeps them evenly spaced apart). When the cage breaks, it allows the bearings to load up on one side, causing the shaft to slightly move. This causes the gears to mesh up slightly off to one side, which causes more noise. The bearings loading up on one side also creates a noise.

my car had intake, header, and exhaust on it as well as a short shifter kit, but im pretty sure the whole tranny is messed up because my shifts got really notchy and it was hard to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. It wasnt just like tap it into 2nd it was yanking it into second gear. They didnt say anything about my mods because they have nothing to do with the tranny plus the fools at the dealership know that i wont put up with their Bullship.. Ive sued them in the past about my 6th Gen SI!

Seriously if you have problems with your tranny or anything and your car is still with reasonable mileage (at least under 60k or so)
call American Honda and dispute the problem with them

TO bad I wrapped it around a mail box, some guy cut an old telphone pole and used at his mailbox, I moved the engine block back about 4 inches in that car and moved his freakin' mail box 3 inches. Thread
