i have never had a honda with a glare problem like this. it seems the curvey dash above the gauges reflects the sunlight in the window and makes it very dangerous when the sun is shining from the front of the vehicle.
does anyone else have this problem? or a solution to this?!?

i thought the same thing when i first bought the car dec 2003. however, i only used armorall on it once. it's been over a year since i have used any sort of dash cleaner. i have just been wiping the dust off with a dry cloth.
any other suggestions? i talked to some other civic owners and they shared the same concerns. any sort of dash cover or something (that isn't a huge eyesore) that can limit this glare???

hmm actually the dash cover makes it alot worse. I haven't really noticed too much about the glare tho. Now I'm gonna pay attention lol. You would hate the new 8thgen civic cause the whole windshield looked like a big dashboard. tons of reflection.

i am a HUGE honda fan. even my motorcycle is a honda... however, this is perhaps the biggest functionality flaw i believe they have overlooked! you would think after 8 generations of civics they wouldn't have a problem like this. (yes, i did notice the new civics have this problem as well.):
it is physically blinding during my commute in the mornings and evenings when the sun is in front of me.
a few weeks ago i threw a black tshirt up there and it fixed the problem entirely. however, the shirt is obviously not a permanent solution. so i purchased a civic car dash cover. this is as form fitting as possible, but it still looks like a floormat up on my dash. it is really aweful looking.
i am hoping there is some sort of matte finish (no shine at all) dash cover (kinda like a giant vinyl sticker or something). something just to cover the bubble area on the dash, above the gauges.
any other suggestions??? thank you!!

Wow the only times I've noticed glare is when there's a shiny coat of turtle wax sealant. And even then its not too bad. If you're really desperate, you can strip it with some mild alcohol solution. I'm sure there is some protectant still there. If you can stick some tape on it without having it fall off, then there is no more protectant. But I would try the 50/50 alcohol water and see what that does. Test on a non-visible area first. Should make it as dull as can be.

that's an idea, but won't stripping the dash with alchohol just dry it out to the point of cracking? my car sits out front of my house and work all day (never garaged) so i think that would just ruin the dash.
not trying to destroy it. rather, cover it with something that won't reflect the sun's glare.

hmm yea not a good idea then. eventually the sun will fade it more. How old is your car? Mine has been sitting in the sun prolly 3 years at least. And its nice and dull.

it's a 2003 and it has never been garaged.. so lots of time in the sun.
i still think a nice matte vinyl cover or something that could stick on just that bubble part would work, if only i knew where to go, what material to use etc... i'm sure i could make something.. i just dont know enough about modding my car or anything.

not sure what the benefits of wiping it with a microfiber cloth would be. wiping it with a dry cloth is fine though. i have to keep it dry so that there is less reflection.
any solutions for what i can permantely do/affix to the dash above the bubble part (above the gauges) so that there is less glare? anyone who knows about aftermarket parts for dashes?
i have seen (in the past) people who would apply/swap out different dashes so they would be a different color etc. anything like that???

try cleaning the inside of the window....the dust and such is what causes the refraction (ha I used a big word) to occur....did this to mine and I never have glare....also try wearing sunglasses....may not make you the coolness like schwarzenegger in terminator...but it'll help too...

this problem has been since 2003. doesn't matter if i wear sunglasses or if the window is clean or dirty (that just lessens it). doesn't even matter if the dash is dirty.. it's always there. it is the angle of the bubbly dash and the way the sunlight hits it and reflects it right back to the window.
i am looking for some sort of dash cover (at least for that part above the gauges) that has a matte finish. this way the light cannot get reflected just absorbed.

it doesnt matter. i have tried it every way possible. with the windshield and dash dirty it helps. but that's not fun having a car like that.
any sort of civic dash cover out there?

I noticed this problem when I last drove from new mexico to california. during dusk the glare sucked. I had my girlfriend throw a towel over it and the glare went away. A dash cover that wont reflect light will solve the problem. Too bad they all knida look tacky.

You could always make a little custom fit cover just for the dome. Use black cloth and it should look o.k.
Also, polarized sunglasses may help.
The trouble I have is with the sun and the shiny chrome rings in the instrument cluster.

so crazy though.. that all the mods for a civic, there isn't one to cover the dash in a decent way. anyway to replace the dash.. maybe swap it with a flat color?

i appreciate the idea for sunglasses, however that doesnt seem like the best idea considering even when i have passengers in the car it is blinding for them as well. i'm really not into passing sunglasses out to all my passengers. it just seems silly this is a problem, everyone who gets in my car comments on it, and obviously their cars don't do it (just like my previous cars didn't either).
if anyone has a suggestion or knows of anything designed to cover dashes (especially for civics) which doesn't fade, reflect sunlight, or degrade the appearance, PLEASE respond.
thank you!
otherwise i think i will just cover that part of the dash with some makeshift cover.

i thought there were dash covers you could buy to match your gauges.. like chrome or etched metal etc. or am i thinking of just vinyl vent sticker type things to match the vents with the trim on the car?

yeah i'm sure that would solve the problem. or help a lot, unfortunately i got all my windows tinted to virginia's regulations, which means i can't touch the front glass... sucky!
i already get enough tickets as it is.
