ANNOYING CIVIC 2K1 Problems - time to nit pick!

So far,

1 - Lump to the right of gas pedal can get in the way of "big footed" drivers.
2 - Rear shocks are horrible on bumps.
3 - As usual near $18,000 for ABS
4 - Metal look Trim kits don't match existing metal look trim.
5 - Seat belt not fully retracting.
6 - Wobbly driver seat recall
7 - Fuel line recall
8 - Hidden exhaust pipe
9 - Still very little aftermarket support
10 - Bumper paint chipping recall.
11 - Can't turn off A/C button quirk.

Time for all of us to vent...

I have several problems myself.
1) Front springs squeak when going over speed bumps or slowly through say a bumpy parking lot.
2) Grinding noise in front end when backing out of a parking spot and the wheel is turned almost all the way.
3) Seat rocking.
4) Brakes clicking when hitting them for the first time after getting in the car.
5) Rattles in rear deck, front dash, and sunroof.
6) Brakes grab unexpectedly when slowing off of freeway exits.
7) Metal to metal grinding sound when ABS kicks in.
8) Engine dies ocassionally when backing out of a parking spot.

civicdude will become famous soon enough
1. Clutch creaks when you release pedal
2. Car shakes when at idle at a red light. (it doesnt do it when I bring it to the dealer though)
3. Wipers chatter across the windshield, even though it has been fixed once before. The honda dealer said it was the wiper refills, so they changed them. Guess what it still does it.
4. Transmission suks. Car doesnt go into first sometimes, or second. Oh and reverse also.

1. clicking in the steering wheel.
2. how much harder it is to work on our cars then it is for all the previous civics.
3. the short front. (still looks weird to me)

I have that same problem with shifting into 1st and 2nd and reverse sometimes. Well, the reverse thing annoys me because you can hear the plates in the tranny moving when you shift into gear. And sometimes it doesn't engage all the way and you hear this sound that seems like rolling ball bearings. Know what I mean? It's just annoying. I hope it doesn't mean anything is seriously wrong with the tranny though...

After 16,000 miles, I have had no problems, except for a slight rattle in the back, but I plan to fix that, there is a ton of info on it here somewhere...my car runs fantastic....handles great, great mileage, and enough HP to satisfy me for now...

my car rattled but I marked all the rattles with a post-it note and the mechanic fixed them all. He said the post-its really helped isolate the noises, and my car was SHHHH quiet

of course, that was 15k ago, now its a bit noisey again.....

The most annoying thing by far is the brakes grabbing unexpectedly. It jolts you forward and your passengers think you don't know how to drive.

My only real complain is the back strut or spring when goin down the highway around 60+mph and you hit a bump the recoil from the rear is really harsh, I bet some Koni's would fix that though

I've had no probs so far on my 2k2 ex, other than a few rock chips and such, as for the "brakes grabbing unexpected" that's the grade logic of the tranny i assume.. *knock on wood* everything seems to be cool w/ mine other than the current wtf is the radio power issue..

It isn't the brakes causing that, it is the transmission downshifting too early. Would you please take it in and complain? When I do, they always tell me I'm the only one - but I know others have the same problem. It scares the hell out of me when it happens. You do have an automatic, right? Just watch the tach next time it does it, and you'll see the needle jump as it downshifts. There's another active thread on the same subject... check it out: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=22390jerky downshift

<< yes on the grade logic. that's what it is. >>

So now the question is - is it at all possible to turn the annoying thing off? I'd like to chose my own gear. Even if it is an automatic, I'm pefectly capable of knowing when I'm going up or down a hill, and making the necessary gear selection.

This is not a problem with your car. Occasionally not being able to go into reverse is normal for nearly every car out there. I believe this is due to the safety mechanism that prevents accidental shifting into reverse when moving in a forward gear... the safety just kicks in sometimes even when you're stopped. Just put it into neutral, pump the clutch once or twice, then try again.

Try shifting to 1st gear then back to reverse if that doesn't work shift to 1st gear release the clutch to engage into first gear make a full stop shift to reverse.
