I would take off the intake and see if it still does it. Having metal red hot and something touching them will cause the tubes to bend. If you drive long enough, gravity will do em in eventually.
reviving an old thread
so umm yeahh.. time to revive this thread.
i am currently having the same problem
i have a 2003 LX, have a SRI n apc muffler, no other performance mods
so 2day i was workin on the car had to fix the headlight, got that done, then i put in some NGK plugs, then hooked my system back up. i started my car so the system wouldnt put a strain on the battery, the hood was still open and when i got out i heard a clicking sound from the engine bay, i realized it was coming from a connection (dont have a pic but its under the the connection that goes into the intake right ontop of the throttle body, i disconnected it and the sound stopped, then i plugged it back in and it kept clicking, figured ill just see if it stops on its own, when i got in the car the CEL was on and i figured it will go off soon,
so i take the car down the street to tune the system without annoying the neighbours and then on the way back to the house i drove it a little "spirited?" and then parked it n popped the hood, then i realized the manifold was GLOWING RED hot, and i dont mean see it if u look hard i mean glowing as red as possible, i figured it had something to do with the CEL so i disconnected my battery for a bout a half hour
then hooked it back up, the CEL was off and i started it and let it idle for about 5-10 min and revved it up a bit and the mani was fine, then on the drive home i took it easy til i got close to home then id rev higher to see if it will glow again, as soon as i got to my street i popped the hood latch, parked it and quickly looked under the hood and the mani was red but not too red and it dimmed down within 5 seconds
i returned to my car a few hours later after readina bout this on the net, when i started it it didnt fire up as usual, took a bit longer, cranked a few times more than usual
i read a couple threads on this on this site and they all seem to end without a conclusion or fix to the problem, can anyone tell me how they got past this problem
i doubt its the plugs but as of now, i will change the plugs once i get a chance and see if somehow this helps but i doubt it
im not too sure if this has been happening for a while but i dont usually take a look under the hood after my rough drives
i read there could be a clog but that would restrict the power too and the throttle responce is the same as always

Re: exhaust headers glowing
it could be clogged enough to cause the glowing but not enough to affect power. the ex header gets clogged up too, but on the lx you have the cat right there too, which runs hot to do its job. just take off the manifold and look for carbon. i bet its that.
