So weird....when I back up and turn the wheel it sounds like a fukcin party favor horn running out of air or something. I don't have the slightest clue what's causing it....wondering if it's a leak of some kind.

Lol. I believe it's just the power steering pump that does it. It's louder if you have an intake and sounds sorta like an air noise when the wheel is turned.

Holy crap ... the same thing just started for me a week ago. Only it happens when I when I start the car and reverse straight backwards without having to turn the wheel.

And it sounds exactly the way you described it LOL ... a party horn running out of air and/or an animal whining and/or a messed up violin

Funny thing is, it started at the EXACT same time as this low brake pads issue I just posted : http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=174985

So I just assumed it was some kinda brake part rubbing against the rotor. I'll see if it still makes this weird *** sound after I change my pads.

And yeah, it freaks the hell outta me too ... LOL

Wow ... you've got the exact same 2 issues that I have... scracthy sound while cruising, and this rabbit groaning sound on reverse. Weird ...

Have you checked your pads recently?

Yeah, it's hard for me to believe that these 2 sounds are related because they sound so different from each other ... but what really bugs me, is that they both started on the EXACT same day last week, maybe 5 minutes apart from each other.

Let me know what you find out after you check your brakes.

I just talked to HOnda...it's the inner pads that are shot. I know it's not the outter because there's no scoring on it...he said..

It'll scrape when driving and go away under braking.
The squeeling sound is an indicator on the inside pad...it's very small thin, thin peice of metal that's sound resonates to a high pitch.

it's only been a few days so I'm hoping I only need pads...but I feel better now.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I was already 99% sure that the scraping sound during cruising was due to worn brakes.

But does that also explain that violin creaking sound on startup and reverse? That crazy-*** groan sounds nothing like what a worn out brake pad would create.

Strange that the inner pad would wear out faster than outer one. But either way, I'm gonna have to replace both at same time, regardless of how thick the outer one still is.

Yes it does. It's a wear indicator called a 'sqealer' and it's designed to make that retarded noise when you reverse....who knows why...lol. Anyway, get the pads done and it'll stop.

Just changed my pads to PBR Metal Master pads and all the noises are gone. Old pads looked really thin when they were taken out and I could see exactly where the wear indicator was rubbing on the rotors.

So far the Metal Masters feel great ... very smooth, no noise, great pedal feel, and very little dust. And these pads are supposed to have very long life, so let's see how they do over the long run.
