Scratchy metallic sound at highway speeds (brakes or calipers?)

Sounds a lot like the brake wear indicator, but it never happens when I'm braking. Sound just started 2 days ago (58,000 miles on car).

It's a high-pitched (but light) scratchy metal on metal sound that sometimes happens when I make a left u-turn, and sometimes randomly when I'm driving at highway speeds. When it does happen, it only lasts for 1 or 2 seconds. Seems to be coming from right front end.

Strange thing is, when I tap my brakes lightly just once, the sound disappears.

Could it be the calipers making this sound? Or do the brake wear indicators make this sound even when you're not braking?

Any clues/suggestion appreciated.

i think it could be the brake pads wearing down. are these still the stock pads? if it is then it would probably be worth your while to just take a look.

Changed stock pads to AEM 32,000 miles ago.

I thought about that, but wouldn't the sound occcur during braking only as a wear indicator? I happens when I'm off the brakes, and actually stops when I tap the brakes.

Either way, I'll check out the pads tonight.

(BTW, do rear drum brakes give a wear indicator noise too when they're low?)

Could it be that your wheels making that sound? Maybe it's worth testing another set of wheels...

I just got my brakes checked, and the sound is caused by my worn out brake pads. Already ordered new ones.

Same issue as this one : http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...11#post2394311

That's unusual... AEM pads lasted for such a short period of time...

Every car and driver is different, I suppose. 32,000 miles may be considered short for some, but a lot for others. Gonna give Axxis metal masters a try this time.

Maybe this is a useful link to you. I hear hawk pads are very decent as well.

same here bro. How messed up is that? I only hear it when I'm cruising but under breaking it goes away. I found the way to get rid of it is to speed up and slam on the brakes...lol
