is there a problem with 02 Manual Tranny?
is there a problem with 02 Manual Tranny?
I have a 2001 civic ex and my tranny was popping out of gear and it just kept doing it until my second gear is now finally completly gone. So i found a used tranny out of a 2002 civic ex and was wondering if they had the same problem with them and if it would bolt right up?
Why don't you take it to the dealer and bitch a bit until they fix your tranny. It's a problem they know about. I took my girlfriends civic in for the same problem and they rebuilt her tranny under warranty.
my car did not come with any warranties and i complained to honda and they had me call honda relations and they told me that they would fix it for free.....then i took it to the honda dealership and they started to work on it and found out i had a short throw shifter and they dropped me and didnt fix it for free so now i need to get it fixed with my own money

I have been having problems with engaging in 1st gear... Like sometimes while stopped and with the clutch all the way down, the shifter still won't go into 1st. So i have to sit there and put it back into neutral, release and press down the clutch again and hope it engages.... 02 EX

alright, I have had this problem for about two years now, and I finally fixed the problem not 30 minutes ago, check it out:
your car may fall under honda's TSB. If it does, you can tell because itll be sticky going into gear. the problem will be more than intermittant, and you shouldnt have any problems getting the dealership to duplicate the problem.
However! there is a second possible cause, not covered by honda's TSB, can easily be caused by replacement bushings or replacement linkages or even modified stock shifter sticks. I called BS on honda for blaming my transmission problem on the stick as well.
So I bought a new stick so they would take it to honda of america. Install it, transmission works now. what the heck?
Well, it turns out that SOMEthing happened to the stick. I have no idea how it happened. But, when I pull the stick over to the left to put it into first or second gear, the stick doesnt stop becuase of the linkage bottoming out (like it should). What happens, is it hits the side of the plastic casing! So the left piston, the one that determines whether forward or rear motion puts you in first second, third fourth, or fifth reverse, could not fully engage!
Pulling to the right, and the stick didnt even coem close to hitting the side. stick stopped on its own. of course, it never popped out of fifth or reverse.
so what can you do to see if this is your problem? pull your center console. look at the stick itself, its surrounded by a square plstic border. your stick shouldnt hit that. if it does, show honda, tell them its unmodified and stock, and that they should pick up the $53 cost of a new piece.
if yours is modified, then youll have to foot the $53 bill.
20 minutes after you get the new part, your transmission problems may be over.
