Slight Grind in Second Gear
Hey. For some god forsaken reason. Every honda I had, had a grinding problem going into second. Now it could just be me.. but I dont know. I got a 04 Si..... now sometimes it has a small grind going into second when I race... can anyone tell me why it's doing that? Clutch still not down all the way? THanks

It's the tranny, and the way it's designed.
While some here don't agree with this, I fixed my problem by squeezing a small tube of MOLY LUBE into the gearbox. It takes a couple of hundred miles, but my transmission shifts smooth as butter now. So does my brother's 6speed accord, and so did all my previous honda's.

When you say grind, you mean you can feel it right?? You can't hear you tranny grinding, right??
I have the grinding feeling in my tranny, but not the grinding sound.
I don't have an si, but I have an ex. I believe this is a common issue.

My car grinds in second once in a while. I have a LX. It doesnt happen very often, but only in second. So I am pretty sure it isnt me (my foot is all the way down).

Same here, it seems to be a common problem that has been around for a while. Although no one has a definate answer for this... But it only happens once in a while.

My car did this for a while... However, and this might just be a coincidence, but ever since I changed to Redline MTL, I don't believe it's ground 2nd. Like I said, could just be a coincidence, but over the last 10K or so I don't believe it's done it.

There is a petition that the RSX owners have been signing about the same problem.
My "GUESS" is that the stock honda fluid is a little too thin, or maybe a little too thick.
That would explain why a modifier like Moly (in my case) or a different oil altogether like redline seems to fix this problem.
Yeah, Honda engineers really knew what they were doing. Riiiiight.
I'm very happy with how my car shifts. Next fluid change I'll give redline a try and see how it differs from my moly treatment.
VTEC01EX, a lot of people have the same result with redline MTL. No coincidence.
