why wont car hold 1st to the redline in auto?

why wont car hold 1st to the redline in auto?

It;s anoying. It shifts right at 7k and the redline is 7500.

Redline is at 6800 rpms, and the rev limiter cuts fuel shortly after. There's nothing wrong with your car.

you shouldnt be redlining anyway. It will damage your engine.

Yeah, but if he's flooring it (even on auto) it should at least shift "optimally" just right before redline. It might never actually hit it, but it should not be shifting 5k before..

If its a prelude, the motor is making the most power at or close to 7000 rpms. Anything above that and your making less power, so why not just shift gears, lose some horsepower, then continue building more horsepower rather than just making less and less power?

but wouldnt it be better to get that extra 500 revs to drop back down inthe next gear higher up the revband, which is then closer to the peak power? isnt that why all cars have their redlines right above their max power point?

the vic makes most power at like 6500rpm, but redline is 6800...

Revving that high is eventually gonna lead to engine problems (noisy/valves out of adjustment), and worse yet...tranny problems.
