High Idle while driving?

At first it started when i went into reverse. It would for some reason idle at 2500 rpms then stop once I get going forward. Now it does it all the time. It just started today and it got worse and worse until it finally does it at all time. Its almost like something is getting stuck because now it does it almost 90% of the time. It will idle anyway from 1500 to 3000 randomly. Whenever I'm driving its almost like Cruise Control because it will just stay the same rpm. My pedal isn't stuck or anything like that because my check engine light came on during my ride home so its obviously internal. Any ideas on whats wrong?

Something with the idle control system. Could be any number of things, but the first thing to do is get the code read at a car parts place. That will tell you what's causing the light to come on. You rproblem may be a caused by faulty tps (throttle position sensor), iat, or iac sensors for intake air temp. All are on or near the throttle body.
