OMG! When I changed mine at 18K, there were tons of metal shavings stock to the drain bolt. That can't be good for the tranny. You better get it done asap.

Every 30k, which is way too long imo. Manual tranny is every 60k I think.

Uhhh... Your susposed to have metal shaving...Its normal...Its from metal wear, NORMAL EVERYDAY WEAR...nothing to worry about.

Proactive maintenance would be like every 30k, not 15k.

Okay, I'll talk to you in a year or so when you're in for tranny work Metal shavings are not normal wear and can ruin a transmission if they're floating in the fluid. I changed mine a second time at 22k miles and no shavings (just dirty fluid).

And you have to remember that I only did a single drain and refill. So it's not like a full service, since there's alot of old fluid still left. That's why I do it earlier.

LOL- okkkaaayyy....

The oldest trick in the book for a transmission place to sell you a new tranny is "let me take a look at your tranny, OMG it has metal flakes in it..." ETC.

Its overkill- you can waste your time and money on doing it every 15k, but it is overkill and is not necessary. I would say general rule of thumb, do it around 50k or so...

Eeeeeehhhh....... I'm going with Gearbox on this one. My Mom's 01 civic was REALLY acting up at 42k, and fluid was changed at 25. The fluid was already shot again. Car runs and shifts perfectly again. I don't know what the deal is with the 7th gen tranny's in general, but they sure don't go 50k between fluid changes.

Even my own 5 speed improved dramatically after I changed the gear oil at 24k. And no, I do NOT dog my car at all.

Honestly, after having had older honda's without any drivetrain troubles EVER, my faith in the 7th gen's is pretty low.

Maybe our civics tranny's suck that much, but with a NORMAL car, I still say 50k.

Im surprised how much of a difference yall said you could tell with that at such low mileage- maybe Im crazy- but that sure does seem early...

Maybe Ill change mine and then sing a different tune, who knows...

Yeah when I changed it at 18k, the shifting got ALOT smoother. When the car was brand new, there was a 1-2 sec pause switching from first to second. Glad that mostly went away now.

With NORMAL cars. My 82 Accord had 151k on it, original tranny fluid, NO issues whatsoever. Automatic, btw. I should have kept it. It still runs fine, I gave it to a friend in need when I was stupid enough to buy a "NEW" car.
Overall, I like my civic, but I can tell that it is fragile in ways that older hondas just weren't.

Yup. I really have to baby this car and do tons of maintenance on it. Seems like it's not built to last at all, and I want to keep it as long as possible.

On a side note, we took the car across the county over 2000 miles in a week. Well let me say that the car was torn up! Air filter, oil, and tranny fluid was filthy among other things. It was like the car was used for a year. After everything I've done to it now (new head, fuel cleaners, air filters, etc), it almost runs like new again. But keep in mind that the car only has 24k miles on it! Hard to believe.

Yeah...

My tranny takes a long as time to shift lately- but I noticed it once I put on the 19s, so Im just assuming its the 19s...Going thru the mountains in TN last weekend, driving to a show, the little bitch stayed at like 4k-5k RPMS the whole time...LOL

Omg. We had the car loaded down and it would not go up the mountains. We were behind a big rig trying to go like 35mph in a 65 and all the fast audis and basically every other car flying past us.

Hey guys, I just got my tranny fluid changed, and I wanted to check to see how the color is, except I don't know which reservoir under the hood is the tranny fluid. I know the smallest one is for the clutch, the one above it is for the Brake fluid I think?? Oh I dunno, somebody take a pic for me and circle it. Thanks.

I agree - if the autos on the Civics suck that bad I would trade the car off as soon as I could. I am glad to have a manual in my Civic.

Why should I trade in my completely modded civic when I could just do a k20a2 6spd swap...That would take care of my auto...muhahahaha
