rant mode on...
Unbelievable. I go to unscrew the top of the factory airbox (which I've done several times before, all successfully), and all of a sudden CRACK - and the screw won't unscrew and there's a crack in the plastic. What the frick was Honda thinking when they designed this thing! I could see if I was overtightening it, but I was unscrewing it! Now I'm stuck with a dilemma... I hate aftermarket intakes, but I definitely dont have much confidence in this design now. Blah.
rant mode off.

So they're not going to feed me a bunch of BS about how I clearly broke it due to negligence? Is there a TSB or some sort of documentation on the part being faulty?

Rep Power: 424 that looks like the top part that is cracked...
when i found that mine was cracked, i went in for an oil change (LOF)...when they tried to check the air filter, they saw that it was all busted...they called the Service Advisor and asked him to send it through as a warranty claim since there is a bulletin to swap-out the air-box due to a manufacturing defect

Rep Power: 0 Cool... I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the heads up.
So now I'm at 1) airbox replacement, 2) new seat rails due to rocking, 3) steering wheel clicking sound, 4) clutch squeak, 5)... give it time, i'm sure there will be a 5.

Rep Power: 0 Exactly. That's precisely why I intend on just buying a new lid. It's a good thing I put off my misc. part order through College Hills a little while longer.

Rep Power: 0 Majestic sucks and hasn't gotten me my cover yet, so I'm still working on this project. It 'bulges' on mine too - I thought that part was in the top, not the bottom? Looks like I might be in the market for a whole assembly after all.

Rep Power: 0 Same thing happened to me two weeks ago. I went to unscrew all of the screws, and noticed that they kept spinning, without coming out. Each of the screw casings had cracked (i.e. the plastic). I took my car to Honda and complained about it. The service manager told me that many people have had this problem, and that it is a defect with the OEM part. They refused to fix it under the extended warranty, but I complained enough that I only had to pay for the part (upper and lower casing), and not the labour.

Rep Power: 0 Ya, I went in to the dealer and they wouldn't fix it either because my warranty just finished. They tried to make it sound like this issue just affected my car only and that they had never seen or heard of this problem happening before. What the heck is wrong with all these dealers and totally contradicting each other?
Anyway, I too complained enough that (opposite to the above post) I would only have to pay labour and they paid the part. I have an appointment booked for Monday so we'll see how much labor is. According to the TSB it should only take 0.3 units of time. Hopefully this will be much less than the $101 they quoted me for the part (had I paid for it).

Rep Power: 0 I got the replacement lid from Majestic (they finally sent it) for $25ish, and I got the bottom part of the box from Streetglower on For Sale/Trade forum for $10. It doesn't make any sense to pay that much when the parts are so easy to change. If anything, just tell them you want the parts, and you'll take care of the labor by yourself.
