I recently noticed a very loud rattle probably coming from under the hood. It does it when driving on rough roads and when the car jerks back and forth at idle. I know I've been doing stuff around the engine bay, but everything seems secure. It's a VERY loud rattle, not some small thing rubbing. I'm worried. Any ideas?

have you tryed to have the car on with the hood up and try to hear where the sound is coming from?

Well it doesn't do it in park, and I've tried to bang on stuff with no luck. Thanks anyway. Maybe it'll go away.

I think it might be the fipk heat shield hitting something. That intake vibrates like crazy! I put some tissue under it and I think most of the noise is gone.

Look under the car... might be easier under a rack or something. But it might be you're catalytic converter cover that's rattling.

check for any loose bolts (header bolts, downpipe bolts, ect)

My Megan Racing cat started rattling at idle recently but that's probably my fault for being too lazy to put it back on the hanger. Gotta make myself some time for that project.

It's the stupid fipk shield. I still hear it, but not as bad. I'm thinging it's that metal bracket underneath that the stock airbox bolted to. Not to mention that it's stuffed in there. I'm gonna also try and grease the rubber moldings.

Wow, it's just one thing after another with K&N products lately, eh gearbox?

Just pull out that factory intake bracket if you think that could be it. It's worthless even with the factory intake in - I broke mine a while back and never bothered to replace it.

I stuffed some foam between the intake shield and the bracket. Almost all the noise went away. Still a little from somewhere, but good enough.

Well my bad. The other thing that was rattling--my HID inverter sitting on bare metal. I took care of it and there's almost no rattle.
