Question Warm Up/Cool Down

Isnt there an amount of time to wait after you start the car for the oil to get all up in everything and whatnot? How long should I wait?
on the same note...
How long after I park should I let it cool off before I turn off the motor? Im thinking of power for stuff as well.

Typically wait till your engine temp has stabilized untill you rev it past 3500-4k, you don't really have to wait at all before turning your car off, unless you were really driving the **** out of it, if your temp gauge is at it's normal place, then just shut the car off and forget about it.

what do you mean by stabilized?(besides the definition)
the rev thing isnt true about anything but the 7th gens right? what if its a different car?

well it still dosent seem good for it to real quick - drive->park->take keys - basicly as fast as one could.... I dunno. I also leave it running a bit, and right when Im pulling up to park I turn stuff off (i.e.headlights, CD, radar) am I doing any good by doing this?

thanks BTW!

you dont need to warm up your car to drive it. you can drive it right away, just drive your car easy. when it gets warmed up then you can do whatever you want to it. you dont need to cool down the car either.

typically you only need to warm up and cool down a turbo'd car. if you dont have one i dont really see the point... only that you baby your car way too much.

I wouldn't warm it up more than a minute. Just don't drive hard until it warms up. Only turbo cars need to cool down to protect the turbine.

our manual says to let it "warm" for 1 minute and get going after that...don't remember the exact quote..

Yup, according to the manual you can drive it after about a minute no matter how cold it is outside. Personally I wait until the needle starts to move a little then drive slow keeping the rpms under 3K. When it reaches full operating temp I drive normal.

EDIT: About cooling down, the only time I wont turn off my car is when the radiator fan is running. If you turn off the engine while the radiator fan is still running, the coolant isnt circulating through the engine since the water pump isnt running. I try to wait until the fan goes off then shut down. I dont think its critical though.. not sure. Just something I do.
