Problem with fuel gauge?

Okay, here's the situation. I've been driving around for 75 miles since last fillup, and the needle has stayed at or above the full mark the whole time! What's going on? I've never had it stay above full for more than 30 miles.

I had a fuel sender replaced before, but that happened when the fuel gauge would read empty even though there was still 4-5 gallons in the tank.

So I'm not sure what the problem is. I think the actual gauge is working, since it goes up and down when the car turns on and off. It's just staying on full for a long time now. Thanks for any help.

Well I think mine fixed itself for now. But when my sender went out, I had four gallons left when the light came on. Just take it in and tell them to fix under warranty. Make sure you warn them not to spill gas on the backseat when they do it--like they did to mine.

Well im not to sure but i think they design cars like that for those people who like to wait till the last minute to fill up. it saves there buts many times. And about it jumping up and down it does that when your accelerating sometimes since there is more gas being sucked out and that somehow messes with it. Try accelerating at WOT and youll see what i mean. Itll sink down real fast and slowly rise back up.

That's a bunch of baloney. Your fuel pump doesn't suck up fuel any more when you're accelerating compared to when you are idling. The fuel pump maintains a constant pressure to your injectors. Any excess fuel that isn't taken up is returned to the tank by a fuel return line. The fuel gauge moving while you are driving is caused by the sloshing of gas in the tank. The sender is a float connected to a rod and transducer which reads the height of the fuel in the tank. A fuel gauge which appears to "stick" or "jump" is due to flat spots or dead spots in the transducer. The only way to fix is by replacing the transducer. This involves dropping the tank. Furthermore, driving until empty is a sure way to shorten the life of your fuel pump. Fuel pumps rely on gasoline to cool and lubricate. If you have less fuel in your tank, there is less fuel surrounding the pump, therefore less cooling and shortened life.

That'd be 100% true if we had a return line.

We have a returnless setup, so all gas will burn up in the cylinders until more is injected.

LOL. Yup. My bad. Was thinking about my old car. You're correct. But you still wouldn't see the fuel visibly drop on acceleration in that case.

This is not a warranty issue yall, this is just how the civics are.

This is a very common problem that people have just learend to deal with. Our fuel gauages are incredibly inaccurate and thats why I recommend just resetting the trip odometer each time so you know how much you left on your tank...
