Clutch or transmission problem

Clutch or transmission problem This is not on my Civic but it's on my 91 Saturn...I push the clutch in and i'm hearing a loud ticking noise coming from the transmission. It doesn't matter if i'm in gear or not. and when I release the clutch in 1st or nutrual, the noise stop... also because of the i'm having hard time shifting in gears, i almost have to force it in really hard. i'm thinking it's time for a new clutch? not sure what the problem is. any idea?
