J/W if checking breaks for wear/problems is for free

Hello, when i press on my breaks from mainly going downhill (like from Yosemite, CA) i feel like my breaks are loose and it vibrates and shakes the car a little bit. I'm not sure what it could be, it could be anything from ABS acting up, warped rotors, or lopsided rotors but i was just wondering if i take it into like a shop..will they charge me just for getting it checked? Also please name some places to go get it checked, like known nation wide reliable places. thanks

Most places check it for free but they WILL find something wrong, whether you need it or not. Try to find a local car buddy to look at it first if you are not too mechanically inclined.

As far as the nationwide places go, most of them are franchises and individually owned so it will all depend on how the place is ran. I trust my local performance shop over the nationwide chains.

I agree with bobby, they'll always find something wrong with it because they want your money.

As far as shaking the car goes, thats a sign of warped rotors, which they probably won't find in their inspection.

I assume you downshift going down the mountains? You have to get civic rotors pretty hot to warp 'em...

you dont have to get are rotors that hot to warp them. Our rotors are shitty honda rotors. they are not ment to be used for racing. they are meant for a lite foot.

I've been hard as heck on mine so far and no warpage. Given the traffic around here, nigh-unto-panic stops from 80 mph are quite common on the highway.
