Tips For Better Gas Mileage
This post is for my fellow civic owners with **** poor gas mileage. I know you guys are just as tired as I am when u read a post of someone having horrible gas mileage, and someone posts "Oh I get 300+ a tank".
Before winter I had Intake, Exhaust, 17" rims, and lip body kit. Using AC every so often I would get between 21-23 MPG. I've at one point gotten 18 and even 16 mpg in the past.
I have tried all the usual stuff. Reset ECU, properly inflate tires, clean air filter, keep RPM's low, and got Denso Iridium spark plugs. None of those things did squat.
I have recently tried 2 new things. For the winter, I took off my rims and put OEM back on. The other thing I read in another thread, but most people forget to mention.
Ever since I got my car, I've always kept the windows down, ALWAYS. Especially with our cars and a system it's a must unless u want everyone to hear just trunk rattle. Now I try and keep the windows up whenever possible, especially on the highway because of the wind resistance.
That, combined with the OEM rims has given me a max output of 28.5 mpg on more than one occassion. I know it's still low compared to most owners on here, but it's a 5-6 mpg spike that I was very happy to see, even with the heater on 65% of the time.
Basically what I want to say is, KEEP UR WINDOWS UP.

its the way you drive. You think ur not pressin on the gas but in reality you are. If u go 65 mph on the freeway with cruise control ull get about 38mph. But if you go 10miles faster your gas milage will change alot
My dad with my truck (Sierra v8 5.3lt) gets about 350 gallons to the tank cus he has never passed 2000rpm`s even on the freeway lol and going downhill he never pushes on the gas on on small streets he just lets the idle move the car at like 15 mph. he is basically the slowest driver in the world... oh ask VTECTypeR how slow he drives he will tell ya

I do all that and more and still only get 22mpg with a mix of highway and city. I even went 99% highway miles once and got 30mpg going with cruise at 65mph or lower. It's all crap. I have stock everything and still the mileage stays down in low 20s. Only thing is keep your air filter clean. It will give 2mpg more than dirty.
i drive my car very aggressive and i get around 25-27 mpg. it's hard to get good gas mileage where i live. thats with alot of weight in the trunk too. also, i put 89 octane because i get about 3-5 more mpg over the 86 octane. i should clean the air filter because it has been over a year since i installed it...and haven't cleaned it since. that might help with my mpg's.

I remember a few times I have gotten 400 miles to a single tank, however that was only two or three times. Nowadays I'm getting around 200 miles to a tank. Sh|tty gas mileage? Yes. I need a solution to this because my car is all stock...I mean ALL stock.

We seriously need to find out what's causing this problem, because it seems to be coming from a stock component. I get 22mpg and all I have are ground wires, air filter, and new plugs. Everything else is stock. Other people floor the car all the time and get 30+ mpg. Lucky guys I guess.

I've always averaged between 25-28 mpg even when I was stock. I've hit maybe 30-31 mpg a couple times when I was on long trips and going a steady 60 m/h, but my usual driving on the highway takes me over 6k on the RPMs quite often so I've always assumed it was that.

if I were you, I wouldnt be too woried about it unless you are getting around 200-230 miles a tank or something. Try going to get you fuel system cleaned, that might help. I know I put gas in all the time, but I dont really care. Getting 300 miles is normal for our car. But if you are always in stop and go traffic, that can effect it too.
I do nothing but highway driving, and if I do 85 to and from work each day (30 mi each way), I have to gas up every Sun. If I keep it to 65 both ways, by Sun I have a quarter tank left. It's an 01 EX Manual, completely stock, shifting at or around 3K all the time. I seem to average well over 350 MI per tank. Driving style, speed, and shift points all seem to help, and YES, having the windows down is equal to having the AC on all the time!
