Heater Overheating
When I was driving home, I noticed my tempreture gauge shoot up above the mid level and it was slowly rising. The thing that was wierd was that I had been driving downhill for 2 miles and I had my heater on, and the tempreture gauge was still rising. So before I get to the bottom of the hill I turn off the heater and I start driving and everything turned out okay...the gauge came back down to normal (below the middle part of the gauge). I mile later I got home and I popped the hood and there was some coolant that sprayed out over my intake.
The next day I took it to GoodYear to have a coolant system check and the test came out negative. The tech told me that the pressure was good and there were no leaks and that it was just a little low on coolant. He told me that the thermostat could have been stuck.
So I leave and drive home and about 5 miles before I get home I decide to turn on the heater and I notice that my tempreture gauge begins to rise again, so I shut off the heater and everything is cool again. Is it just me or does this seem like a weird problem? Anyway, I'll have to take it back to the shop on Monday, but I was wondering if I could get some advice before I take it in so that I don't get taken for an idiot. Thanks.

Either you have a coolant leak somewhere, or a busted thermostat. A broken thermostat will cause either overheating or never warming up (so the engine will always be working harder). Get it fixed quickly.

Re: Heater Overheating
Wow I have this problem....sorry for bumping a old thread.... Basically my temp goes down when i have the heater off... I even smashed on the gas with the heater off to check if it was really just me turning on the heater and yah no problems. Where exactly is the thermostate and how much would it cost to replace it? warrenty is already up and I want to fix this before any problems are caused because of this.
Re: Heater Overheating
The replaced thermostat was a fluke. I ended up finding out that there was a crack in the head gasket. The gasket is not too expensive but the labor is gonna kill you.
