power loss?
Ok tonight I was driving in a bad rain storm, and in the middle of it, the power in the car shut off for about a half second. then about 10 minutes later it did it again. it was weird. It did it about a month ago, but it was so quick I ddint even notice.
Has anyone experenced this before? THink there was somthing shorting out because of the rain. I cant figure out what it was. Any ideas?

i had a similar problem on a different car. i would be driving and all of a sudden, power steering meant something different (i needed more muscle to turn the wheel....hence the new meaning of "power" steering). the car just about shut down and i was lucky since it wasn't a busy street. i can't remember exactly what it was. i think it was the timing belt that was loose. i'd check it out soon as possible. it's a pretty easy fix, you just don't want to have any kind of power loss while driving...like i did.

naw i dont think it is the timing belt. allthough I am going to change that soon. I am at 105k and the manaul says change it at 110k. It seems more electrical that anything. I was checking under the hood yesterday, and I pushed on the rubber gromet on the alternator, and it seemed to snap in a little bit. So maybe that was loose a little, and with the rain, it could have been shorting out. Since the alternator is low on the engine bay.
As for driving it latly, it seems fine. Also I think if it was the timing belt slipping, the timing would be off. And it still pulls like a champ, and no knocking sooooo hopfully things will be ok.
Whatcha all think?

my old prelude would do this in really hard rain or if i hit a deep puddle. the car died a few times completely though, not just for a few seconds. my mechanic at the time said my alternator probably got hosed with the rain when i slammed through the puddles. on a related note though, sometimes if my car gets wet like this, when i try to start it, the car doesnt start right away and the needles in the gauges start going nuts and ticking back and forth real fast. there must be some sort of relay thats getting wet. i would think something close to the front of the car under the hood thats more apt to get wet.
