I have an AEM CAI and i was just wondering how often i should clean it. Also, what would be the best way to clean it.

On a related topic, would it be detrimental to convert it into a short ram intake or vice versa?

Cleaning depends on how much you drive your car. Usually people, like me, clean/change their filters every 10k miles. Since you have a cleanable filter you can clean the filter rather than buying a new one. You should check your filter every so often to see how dirty it is. You accually lose hp when the filter is completely dirt which blocks air from going through.

You can change your CAI to a SRI. There are 2 parts to the intake, correct? ( I dont own one, I have the K&N air filter) If you take off the first portion that goes from the engine bay to where the bumper is, you can replace the air filter at the new end. You are doing this because of water or snow?

On what to clean with, K&N has a cleaning kit for $15 or so. So people say you can clean it with soap and water. The cleaning kit is a 2 part kit. On part is the cleaning solution to wash away the dirt deposits, and the other part is a filter oil.

I believe all air filters like that are cleanable. You should pm or ask someone that has one.

I would say every 10k also...if you have a cold air you will not believe how much dirt settles on top of the filter...cleaned my last month and damn...it was covered in dirt...
