oil level question

This is where the oil level was when I checked a little while ago, the car had been off for about an hour, so the engine would be pretty warm still... ('02 EX)

Is that too much oil? I've been driving around with it like that for about a month, so i'm sure if it was a problem something would have happened by now... it was all changed at the dealer, so you'd think they would know the proper amount..

How much higher would it have to be before it's considered overfilled?

thanks

btw sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, I didn't know which would be best..

start your car let it run for about 3 minutes
turn it off
wipe dipstick clean.
re-dip dipstick...
look at it then...
If at the same level you added about .5 quart too much

Having a little more in there won't hurt. My tranny fluid is a bit over the max, but it still runs fine.

thats not too much, but overfilling isnt good especially in oil. when you overfill the oil what happens is the oil begins to froth (sp), or bubble up. when this happens, the oil doesnt lubercate as well and parts wear out faster due to friction and heat.

Damn dealerships! I was watching my car get a free oil change and watched the Honda "tech" pour 4 full quarts of oil into my car. When I told him that the car only takes 3.7 quarts he said, "all 4 bangers take 4 quarts" so when I told him that Honda; that made and designed the car, only calls for 3.7 quarts he said "it didn't matter". Well I bitched to the service manager and told him that his "tech" wasn't up to speed on the spec of cars, and the service manager just said, "it didn't matter". Plus the idot "tech filled my coolant resivior to the top with water, not the 50/50 mixture Honda calls for, plus you only need to add enough to bring it to the full line, not all the way to the top.

So I figured if the dealership couldn't even follow the specs for oil changes, and didn't even want to correct it, I'd never take my car back to the dealer except for a major warrenty repair. I've worked for a couple of dealerships, and believe me they aren't all that great. Infact I went to work for a independant garage and they had much better mechanics and techs and service manuals than the dealer ever had.

solar,

I totally believe you. My last oil change was scary at honda. I'm going elsewhere and keeping detailed receipts in case of warranty issues.

hey everyone its your friendly Lube Tech here to solve the problem!!! You NEED TO DRAIN a little out man!!!! overfilled is bad no matter how much it is!!!! Drain that **** out!!! as far as the dealership, never go there!!!!! They hire the same people as any Jiffy Lube would, so just ask around, and see what shop has the best reputation!! But if you want it done right then do it yourself!!!!
