My car is pretty new (14K), and the engine has all sorts of weird noises coming from it. I have an auto, but the whistling seems to come and go.

Its possible that your throw-out bearing is making that noise when you take your foot off the clutch. Make sure your not low on clutch fluid. About the noise under the hood, you have to try and pin point it. Sometimes it could be as simple as a loose belt.

I had a whistling sound come from my car about a year ago, if your sound seems to be comming from the vents (mine did) just take it into the dealer and they can fix it in less than 10 minutes.
