01' blue ex 2dr, bumper hit a white post in a parking lot, got paint at several spots, also screwed up the car bumper paint and got a small dent (more like an uneven up and down surface). Other than replacing the whole bumper with a new one for $500-600 USD, do you guys have any suggestions of a temporary fix? For example maybe paint thinner to get rid of the white paint, and touch up paint to cover the bad area? would that work?
Any thoughs would be appreciated. I'm trying to attach a picture here too.

Yuck! How'd ya do that? Nevermind. I have a similar problem with my back bumper. Somebody hit and ran on me. It's dinged pretty good and the plastic is warped too. My shop said it would probably be cheaper to just get a new one. I know you can find a new front bumper for WAY LESS than $500-$600. Just have to look. Check the ForSale/Trade forum and see if anyone has one on here. Or you can get a custom bumper, if you're into the scene. Hell, you can almost buy a whole body kit for that much. Don't use paint thinner, cuz' you'll take off the blue too. No good!

A new front bumper is 202 something. And getting it painted to match the color of the car comes out to around 500 to 600 bucks. Someone hit and run my front bumper. I have a nice size hole/crack in the bumper. Body shop said a new bumper and painted would cost less than trying to repair the damage because of it being plastic.
You could try to sand off any paint chipping area and then put on similar color as your car. The reason I say that is because there is no 100.0% OEM color match as your car paint unless they have the correct mixing code.
Touchup paint is probably 95% close to the OEM paint. You can tell a difference at a glance.

ok... my brother made a bone head move and hit the side of the garage door frame in my Mom's Jetta... the house is off-white, and the car is dark blue, needless to say... obvious. We took some scratch remover and went at it for a while... after 15 or so minutes, we had all the house paint off. As far as the dent, I dunno... he didn't dent the bumper. I would imagine as long as it isn't cracked, it can be fixed with a little filler or something, but it'll have to be re-painted. If they can salvage the bumper, you're still looking at the labor to sand it down bare. Someone hit me a few months back, scratched up my bumper, it cost him $700 to fix it.

thanks
You guys have been very helpful. Obviously all things will be well if money isn't an issue, or if I had experience with car painting etc. We'll see. The car doesn't have mods and will remain that way. The only changes are window tint and leather wrap steering wheel.

Yeah the bumper itself costs abut $200. The painting and matching paint part is the expensive part, $300-400, depends on the shop. The info from the posts above are pretty much on target.

bra/nose mask
thx for the suggestion, but not a fan of that for sedan/coupe, and a pain to wash. Similar hood guard (plastic) for SUVs (if matching the color well) are OK.
