Intermittent shutoff on startup
Hey all,
First time posting here, newer to civics but not Hondas (had an 11' pilot we got to 225k miles and loved that thing). Recently my dad complained to me about the "key not communicating with the receiver properly" on our 07 civic - which as a newer mechanic is already killing me that his way of telling me something is wrong and fix it was just that? - when I asked him to describe more he said that occasionally he would turn it on and it would start for a second and then stop (my guess is on the return to the on position). Now I come from a GM vehicle (96 trans am with VATS) and believe it to be an issue with the security system but am not familiar enough to confidently say that would be it. What would the process be to check if the car is properly reading the key's internal resistor (if they have one?) and what would the next steps be? I don't believe we have a spare or that I can recreate this all too perfectly but have a lot of work for me tomorrow (also checking for why the speakers aren't working but found a post about that), so any help in what direction I should or could go would be appreciated! I do have access to a lot of tools (being a mechanic runs in the family, just not my immediate) so checking resistance, voltage, amps, back probing, etc. isn't out of my wheelhouse.
TLDR:
07 Civic Occasionally Shuts Off Right After Shut Off
Theftlock issue?
Steps to diagnose?
