Battery bs

Hey y’all, I had a Honda service manager tell me today that the small alternators like the one in my wife’s 2007 civic can barely keep a battery charged up. Does this seem odd to anyone else but me ?

Re: Battery bs

The OEM alternator is designed to run a stock car and charge the OEM sized battery just fine . Why did they tell you that? Are you going through batteries?

Re: Battery bs

I’ll back up a bit. So my wife comes home one day and mentions that her car is starting roughly lately. So first thing I check is the battery, standing voltage with the multimeter comes up as 11.7 volts. So I think this could very well be the issue. I turn the car over and check the voltage while running which comes up at 14.6 volts. Awesome. Alternator is working. So I decide to go to the dealership to see if they’ll replace the battery as it was purchased less than 2 years ago and has a 60 month warranty
they throw the battery on their scanner and they say the battery is good but low at 35% charge and then tell me to charge it up and then throw it back in and it should be fine and then says “btw these little alternators nowadays barely crank up enough juice to keep a battery fully charged.”
