Which struts to get?
Which struts to get?
So does anyone know which struts are better?
TRQ from 1A auto
KYB
MONROE
duralast
unity
oredy
ETC...
....not planning on keeping my Honda for more than 3 years (might upgrade). And which ones are the LEAST rigid. I would prefer softer ride.
not looking to spend a ton..

Re: Which struts to get?
I just addressed this issue on my 09 Civic Sedan. I went with KYB excel-G gas shocks. When I removed the rear factory shocks with 65,000 miles on them, surprise they were marked KYB PN 52611-SNE-AO3G. And yes with 65,000 they were shot. SO there's your answer.
I just ordered this morning from Amazon the front struts without springs as the coils in some are not factory diameter and will make it ride differently. From experience. The front struts ordered were KYB 339036 Excel-G (left) and 339035 (right). They are different somehow. Probably more robust for our fat buts on the front left? Cost of the KYB's were 79.98 @. Stifel yourself from buying the pair for 190.00 and save yourself $40.00 grasshopper. Make sure to order new strut mounting bolts and nuts from the dealer , (4 each). Also get 6 bearing plate nuts from the dealer, (3 each side. Pay attention to what you are doing and don't get hurt.

Re: Which struts to get?
I have some additional info that may help someone contemplating KYB struts for the 09 Civic sedan 1.8. Make sure you get new KYB strut mount bearings PN SM5615 at the same time you buy your struts. PN Is the same left and right. They also come with new drylock nuts. Bought them thru AMAZON 1 April 21 for $99.99. If you have some miles on your civic and the rubber bearings are damaged struts alone won't fix the problem.
Re: Which struts to get?
We replaced the factory struts on a 2006 Civic Sedan with Monroe Quick Struts (Monroe #172286 & #172287). Bought them from Rock Auto for a little over $200 for the pair with shipping, and the 5% discount they always have, but you have to look for it.
Ride vastly improved. The spring rate for the Monroe vs the factory units were very close, spring metal OD was the almost identical. We kept the originals for a month to make sure we did not want to swap the new struts over to the old springs. We did not. Good luck!
